Kuami Eugene has expressed gratitude to the church for its significant role in shaping his music career. The highlife artist shared that he honed his musical talent by learning to play various instruments while growing up in the church.
“The church made me who I am today. Everything I know, I learned from the church,” Kuami Eugene revealed during an interview on Joy FM’s Showbiz A-Z. He went on to explain that from a young age, he was determined to become a successful musician, so he focused on preparing himself by mastering a range of musical instruments. “I told myself I would become a great musician, so I worked hard to ensure I could play any instrument I encountered.”
Kuami Eugene explained that he never had formal lessons in playing the piano, but simply picked it up over time due to his close proximity to the instrument. In addition to the piano, he is proficient in playing the trumpet, drums, and guitar.
In an effort to enhance his performances, Kuami Eugene also learned how to do a backflip, adding an extra flair to his stage presence.
The ‘Angela’ hitmaker also shared how he improved his music production skills by taking a formal course in the field. Kuami Eugene’s musical journey began in the gospel genre under the Eugene Marfo Ministries, where he produced a few gospel songs before gaining wider recognition after winning the MTN Hitmaker contest.
Although he no longer identifies as a gospel artist, Kuami Eugene maintains a close connection with the church and collaborates with gospel musicians. He has written songs for gospel stars like Joyce Blessing and Empress Gifty, and has also released a song with Obaapa Christy. Additionally, he regularly performs gospel songs at church events.
