Prophet Nanasei Opoku-Sarkodie of Potters City has urged incoming President John Mahama not to follow through on his campaign promise to abolish the E-levy, warning that the nation’s economic struggles will make it necessary for the government to maintain the tax.
The prophet shared that God had revealed to him that the country will face economic difficulties, and the government will struggle to raise the necessary funds to manage the nation’s affairs effectively.
Despite Mahama’s commitment to scrap the E-levy upon assuming office, Prophet Opoku-Sarkodie advised him to reconsider, urging the president to retain the tax. The prophet also recommended reinstating the tollbooth system as an additional revenue source for the country.
He stated, “I can assure you, this is going to be a very tough year. I told a politician yesterday, ‘Don’t fool yourself into thinking you will transform Ghana in one year.’ I am advising President Mahama not to cancel the E-levy. He will need it. He must keep it. While praying for him, the Lord spoke to me, saying, ‘Don’t let the people mislead you.’ Leadership sometimes requires tough decisions. Do not cancel it. Keep the E-levy, and also bring back the toll booths. Even in developed nations, tolls are paid.”
